PowerPhotos overview

PowerPhotos allows you to break up your Photos.app images among multiple Photos libraries, rather than having to store all of them in one giant library. You can easily switch between libraries, or just browse the photos in your libraries directly from PowerPhotos, without having to open each library in Photos.

PowerPhotos also supports searching across all your libraries at once to help track down a particular photo. If you use iCloud Photo Library to sync photos with your other devices, splitting up your library can help save on iCloud storage costs. Use a single library to hold a smaller collection that you sync with iCloud, while keeping the bulk of your photos in separate libraries so they don't take up space on iCloud. PowerPhotos can analyze your libraries for duplicate photos, showing them to you side-by-side and letting you get rid of extra copies of photos that you no longer need.

What's new in version 3.4.9

Improved

The settings to delete items after an export are now remembered between exports.
When merging and choosing to skip incomplete items, PowerPhotos no longer analyzes those items while looking for duplicates.
When merging and choosing to skip incomplete items, the report no longer includes the incomplete items in the "Items After" count.

Fixed

An issue that would consume a lot of memory during a duplicate search of a large library.
A hang that could occur while loading libraries, especially with many libraries or libraries on slow external/network drives.
A rare issue that could cause a duplicate search to hang while looking for duplicate matches.
An issue that could show the wrong version number for certain libraries.
An issue where the inspector showed "No selection" when a merge or copy session was selected in the sidebar.
An issue when merging where if there was an error analyzing a photo for duplicates, that photo would not be included in the merge.
An error that would be displayed trying to run a second merge preview after returning to the setup screen.
An issue where removing the active library would not choose another library to make active.
An error that could occur trying to copy certain photos that were edited by third party plugins.
An issue where holding the command key while dragging photos onto an album would not move them to that album.
A crash that could occur when browsing the preview of an album copy.

Crashes every time I try to open a new library. Won't access libraries on an external drive which is where the bulk of my photos are. Waste of money and time!

I haven't purchased PowerPhotos as yet because I want to know whether the app can distinguish between photos that have incorrect "date photo taken" dates. 90% of my photos are incorrect - they were altered when I updated to a new Mac. Thanks BernieNZ

I know of no other utility capable of copying content from one Photos library to another. That is something I have to do from time to time, in order to share full-resolution edited images with other people in the family.
